The Divine Mismatch: When Success Didn't Add Up, Jesus Did
Letting go of the world’s trophies to embrace the treasure of knowing Him.
I was just a young kid with no real direction in life. The path ahead felt uncertain, cluttered with obstacles I hadn’t trained for. But hardship has a way of becoming a tutor, and slowly, I learned the value of persistence. I buried myself in studies, chasing a future the world said mattered—one measured in salaries, promotions, and prestige.
Eventually, the effort paid off. I became a software engineer. Two years deep into code and deadlines, I finally held that golden offer letter in my hands. I had arrived—or so I thought.
By worldly math, the equation was perfect:
Hard Work + Skill + Opportunity = Success
The family rejoiced. Friends cheered. The bank balance grew. But my soul? It whispered a different truth:
Success - Peace = Emptiness
When the Formula Fails
Even after “making it,” something was off. The deadlines became suffocating. The politics drained me. The constant need to upskill left me burnt out. I had reached the top of a ladder only to find it leaned against the wrong wall.
I could write flawless code, but I couldn’t debug my own life.
So I quit—a move many called foolish—and joined a college in Bangalore. They saw a backward step. I saw a reset button. I wasn’t looking for a job anymore. I was looking for meaning.
The Roommate Equation
Then came the roommate who shifted my paradigm. We shared a tiny space, but what he brought into it was enormous. Amidst the chaos of assignments and life crises, he remained grounded, calm, even joyful. It wasn’t denial. It was depth.
One evening, I asked, “How do you do it?”
He smiled, “You remind me of someone.”
“Who?” I asked.
“Come with me this Sunday, and I’ll show you.”
The Encounter That Recalibrated Everything
That Sunday, I met not just a community, but a Person—Jesus. Not the historical figure I had heard about, but the living Savior. As worship filled the room, so did something I can only describe as divine logic rewriting my heart.
It was here that the real equation revealed itself:
Need + Jesus = Miracle
Surrender + Christ = Peace
Loss + Knowing Him = Gain
Rewriting My Life’s Syntax
I dove into Scripture. I joined a college fellowship. I began to see that the gospel wasn’t just a spiritual story—it was the highest equation, one that made sense of life’s paradoxes.
No, the storms didn’t stop. But I met the One who calms them.
Jesus didn’t upgrade my résumé. He upgraded my reason for living.
Fast Forward: The Unexpected Answer
“Did you crack Google, Anand?” an old classmate asked recently.
“No,” I smiled. “I'm teaching at a college now.”
Their confusion was almost visible. To them, I had downgraded. But to me? I had been recalibrated. I wasn’t chasing success anymore—I was carrying significance. Every lecture I give, every student I guide—it’s done with purpose, not pressure.
Because now, I live by The Equation of the Savior ♰ Jesus—where the math of heaven often contradicts the logic of earth.
As Paul wrote:
“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.
I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.” — Philippians 3:8
I don’t just believe that verse anymore—I live it.
Your fellow seeker in the divine equation,
Anand

The roommate is none other than a fellow writer on Substack, Joshua Dawale.
Thank you, Anand! Powerful. Jesus will do it. He transforms us and how we see and do life completely changes🙏🏾
